Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 3, 2026

1. Information We Collect

Account information: name, email address, university, and program/major that you provide when you create an account or complete your student profile.

Content you provide: documents you upload to create an AI tutor (e.g. PDF, DOCX, PPTX course material), text you type into Chat, Explain, Summary, Problems, Integrity, Case, Quiz, and Exam tools, and your answers to generated questions.

Voice data: audio you record when using Voice Tutor is sent to our AI provider to be transcribed and answered. We do not store raw audio recordings longer than needed to generate a response.

Usage and learning records: quiz/exam scores, learning outcomes, and progress data tied to your account, so the app can track what you have studied.

Sign-in information: if you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the name and email address those providers share with us. We never see or store your Google or Apple password.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide the core service: generating summaries, explanations, quizzes, flashcards, exams, and feedback from your uploaded material and questions.

To maintain your account: authentication, saving your chats and progress, and keeping your student profile up to date.

To improve reliability and safety: diagnosing errors, preventing abuse, and understanding aggregate (non-identifying) usage patterns.

We do not use your content to sell advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.

3. Third Parties We Share Data With

Supabase — hosts our database and handles authentication and secure storage of your account and content.

Google / Apple — only used to authenticate you if you choose "Continue with Google" or "Sign in with Apple." We only receive the profile fields those providers disclose during sign-in.

AI model provider (Google Gemini) — processes the documents, prompts, and voice recordings you submit in order to generate responses. Content sent to the AI provider is used to produce your response and is handled under that provider’s own data-processing terms.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Data Retention

We keep your account, uploaded documents, chats, and learning records for as long as your account is active, so you can return to past material. You can delete individual chats at any time from within the app. Deleting your account (Profile > Delete Account) permanently removes your account and associated data from our systems, other than records we are legally required to retain.

5. Your Rights

You can review and update your profile at any time from the Profile tab. You can delete individual saved chats from the Chat tool. You can permanently delete your account and data from Profile > Delete Account, which cannot be undone. If you have questions about data we hold about you, contact us using the details below.

6. Children’s Privacy

Study Smart is intended for students of at least 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls, to help protect your information from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.

9. Contact Us

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact us via our Contact Us page, or by emailing our support address.
